Hackintosh Battle
So, recently I purchased a Dell Mini 10v (1011) with the intent to replace the operating system with OSX Leopard. After ordering the netbook, I decided to look around to find guides to help me put OSX onto a netbook. Most of the guides I found made it seem simple. So when the netbook arrived, I was not prepared for what I would be experiencing.
As soon as my netbook was out of the box, I began to follow the guide at MyDellMini.com word for word, and everything was great until I went to boot the installer off of my pen drive…I was given an error stating…
Error: Uncompressed file is not the length recorded
Error: couldn’t uncompress plist file from multikext archive entry 0
Any post on the forums went unanswered, and extensive online searching returned no helpful results…so I tried a couple other methods to make it work. I re-imaged my (newly purchased just for this project) flash drive and re-loading the CD onto it multiple times, tried different versions of NetBookMaker, and I even ended up downgrading my BIOS from version A05, to A04.
All of those attempts proved null, so I went out on a limb, and took my Leopard retail disk, and decided to see how to load OSX onto a netbook using an external DVD drive. I quickly found this guide. I followed the guide, using DellMiniBoot to boot my Leopard disk and was able to install the OS with little-to-no trouble.
After I installed OSX I used NetbookInstaller 0.8.2 RC4 to get everything in working condition. I ran into a few problems with sleep, as many other users did, and following the instructions at the original guide proved to work.
My advice to anyone who is having problems getting OSX onto a Netbook is to use the steps I talked about above. So far I have not run into any problems what-so-ever.
